Alessandro Cortese

Alessandro Jacques Cortese is the Chief Executive Officer of ESTRO, the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology and of the ESTRO Cancer Foundation, and was, until June 2015, President of ESAE, the European Society of Association Executives.
Founded in 1980, ESTRO is a non-profit and scientific organization that fosters the role of radiation oncology in order to improve patients’ care in the multimodality treatment of cancer, with over 6,000 members.
Previously, Alessandro was Director of the Association Management practice at MCI, based in Brussels. In this capacity he was responsible for consulting clients on strategy and products offering, and for the maintenance and development of the competency of the MCI Brussels office in the AM practice.
Alessandro has gained significant experience working with international associations, particularly heading up the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) office of the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Within the scope of the collaboration with MCI, Alessandro served in key management and consulting roles for several international associations such as IAEE (International Association of Exhibitions and Events) and DMAI (Destination Marketing Association International).
In 2015, Alessandro co-founded the Executive Master in International Association Management at the Solvay Business School in Brussels.

Gary has over 30 years’ experience in the convention industry. He has consulted Tokyo, Macau, Hangzhou, Houston, Vancouver, Washington, DC and the countries of South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Serbia on convention and meetings industry development. His convention centre consulting experience includes market feasibility, demand analysis, facility scoping, design review, site review, and operational consultation for convention centre developments in Nigeria, Oman, Malaysia, Mexico and Australia. He also served on the London International Convention Centre Commission. Gary is a former Chairman of the Board of the International Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau (now DMAI) and was one of the first six inductees into the inaugural DMAI Hall of Fame in 2014. He also received the Asia Pacific IMEX Academy Award in 2007.

John Martinez

John's career started out supporting Latin American medical societies to achieve growth and greater integration with other societies in the region. After moving to Europe in the early 1990s, he led the technology revolution that saw European associations move from paper to digital. John now heads an international team of techies at Shocklogic to deliver software and hardware solutions to many associations.
